Last updated: December 10, 2001 *** WARNING - WARNING - WARNING - WARNING - WARNING - WARNING - WARNING *** This software was written as an educational project and is worth exactly what you paid for it (NOTHING)! Who knows what it might do to your computer, so use at your own risk! *** WARNING - WARNING - WARNING - WARNING - WARNING - WARNING - WARNING *** Quick Windows Install WARNING - installing this program removes the drivers for the Creative-Labs application. You will need to re-install them if you wish to use that application. Both sets of drivers can't co-exist and the two applications can't talk to each other. 1> Create a folder somewhere and rename it to something usefull. 2> Download 'setup.exe' into the folder you just created. 3> Run 'setup.exe' by double-clicking on it in that folder. (see the separate 'win2k.txt' for win2k/winxp installs) 4> It should install the drivers, sound files, and 'ini' file as needed. This works for upgrades as well. You may be asked to reboot the system if needed. 5> As long as you are not using connection-sharing, the default 'vb.ini' file should be ok. If you are using some kind of connection-sharing, you will need to add rules to the 'connection-sharing' to allow this program to work, and possibly edit 'vb.ini' to fit your setup. For simple connection-sharing setups, 'vb.ini' should be fine. 6> Start the application by double-clicking on 'vb.exe'. This should bring up a GUI, in it's log window you should see it find the device and go into the 'waiting for call' state. 7> You can make a test call to a test box with an answering machine by picking up the phone connected to the voip-blaster, hearing a dial-tone and dialing a single 1, then just wait. In a few seconds you should here ringing and then a few seconds later the remote end answers a plays a message. 8> You can add speed-dial entries to 'vb.ini' for frequently called numbers. 9> Much better to use the default port of '8008' for TCP and '8010' for UDP, since may cause problems talking to other connection- sharing users if use non-standard ports. This is because some connection-sharing software/hardware requires that you specifically open outgoing ports as well as incoming ports. This is usually more of an issue with UDP than TCP, but can affect both. Also '8009' is required for TCP connections to the phonebook server. If needed, you can configure 'vb' to use port-80 and the HTTP protocol when talking to the server, see the comments in 'vb.ini'. 10>To have the program startup automatically on system reboot, create a shortcut to 'vb.exe' and place it in your 'Startup' folder, under Win2K you can put it in your personal 'Startup' folder or the global 'Startup' folder. You should select 'Properties' on the shortcut and set it to start 'minimized'. UPGRADE NOTES: To upgrade an earlier version of the program, just copy 'setup.exe' into your current directory where 'vb.exe' resides. When 'setup' is run it will replace/rename any files as needed.
